Basement Development
- Completed building permit application.
- Floor plan that includes:
- Use and dimensions of the proposed rooms, including square footage
- Details of structural changes
- Window sizes and locations
- Location of smoke alarm(s)
- Copy of the approved Municipal Development Permit (if applicable).
- Payment
Commercial
- Completed building permit application.
- Two sets of full working drawings, including: architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical drawings. Engineer Seal may be required.
- Copy of the approved Municipal Development Permit (if applicable).
- Copy of the site plan.
- Payment
Residential
- Completed building permit application.
- Two sets of blueprints or drawings, including: foundation, floor plan, elevations, cross-section and truss drawings.
- Copy of the approved Municipal Development Permit (if applicable).
- Copy of the site plan.
- Payment.
Relocation of a modular or move-on, to a basement
- Completed building permit application.
- Two sets of complete foundation drawings (including cross section).
- Copy of the approved Municipal Development Permit (if applicable).
- Copy of the site plan.
- Payment.
Residential Decks
- Completed building permit application.
- Foundation, elevation and cross-section drawings.
- Copy of the approved Municipal Development Permit (if applicable).
- Copy of the site plan.
- Payment.
Small Residential (additions, renovations, garages, wood stoves, etc)
- Completed building permit application.
- Drawings detailing the foundation, floor plan, cross section and elevation.
- Copy of the approved Municipal Development Permit (if applicable).
- Copy of the site plan.
- Payment.
Permit Fees
Permit fees include all costs associated with the permitting and inspection process. Please contact the nearest Alberta Permit Pro for permit fees.
Drawings
The drawing does not have to be professionally drawn, but must include the required information and be completely legible.
The building permit should be posted on the building or site and be visible at all times during construction.
Occupancy
An inspection is required before occupying or using the building.
The Building Inspector will leave inspection reports on the site, unless otherwise specified.
Inspection Stages
- Foundation (Optional)
- Must be damp proofed
- Installation of weeping tile and washed gravel (if applicable)
- If an Engineer is involved, forward a copy of Engineer?s Inspection Report
- Framing and Insulation (Optional)
- Foundation backfilled
- Framing complete on walls, floor and roof
- Roof covering installed (shingles, shakes, concrete tiles)
- Exterior doors and windows installed
- Fireplaces roughed in and framed
- Interior stairs installed where possible
- Insulation and vapor barrier started
- Rough plumbing, electrical and mechanical complete
- Final Occupancy (Required)
- General and fire safety requirements in the Alberta Building Code must be met at this stage. (ie: smoke alarms, handrails, guards, self-closure on garage door, etc.))
- If these requirements can be met in a temporary means, a partial occupancy inspection may be carried out.)
